The Role of Social Media in UK Museums

I am trying to create a discussion about the role of social media in UK Museums. I want to hear examples of innovative practices including community related initiatives. I am looking to organise a social media exchange for Museums and Heritage sites at the end of May 2009 and am trying to source dynamic speakers to run bitesize masterclasses.

I am the founder of sounddelivery a social media training and production company working with charities, museum and heritage sites and the not-for-profit sector . Over the last two years we have trained over 500 individuals from charities including museums to create their own audio content, social networks, blogs and other social media to bring their stories to life.

We are increasingly working with Museums and Heritage sites both with staff as well as community groups.

Last year we worked on two projects with the Museum of London. In Podcasts from the Past we trained 8 unemployed men to create podcasts for visually impaired museum visitors. This was a huge success and the content very strong.

On a separate project we spent a week training a group to be social reporters we trained them to create a blog, learn how to interview for them to then interview people who were involved in the Brixton Riots for a future gallery in the museum. http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/English/EventsExhibitions/Communit...

We've recently been running Introduction to Social Media workshops for staff in museums around the UK.

I think we've got a great deal to learn from projects overseas but I know that there are innovative projects going on in the UK which I don't know about.

Seems a shame you didn't get any responses to this. Did anything happen? did you do the May 2009 Master classes?
